Case Study 1 - Access Control - Integrating systems

The Problem

One local housing association had a historical number of Access Control and analogue CCTV systems.  There was fragmented knowledge of them, lots of different cards in circulation and very little benefit to anybody.  The customer was looking to control access around its main offices and multi tenanted housing blocks across a large area, with a simple, cost effective and common management system.

The Solution

AVA have installed the access control system into the main HQ of the housing association, with the control software located on the main server.  This is only accessible to staff with appropriate security clearance.  Each of the outlying housing blocks have also been fitted with a TCP/IP link to other access control panels, which effectively puts them onto the same system as the HQ.  We have also fitted a CCTV system which links into the access control, giving a recorded video snapshot of all tagged transactions.

End User Benefits

The entire asset base is now controlled by just one administration officer.  She is able to allocate and issue new cards, delete tenants and staff from entering any building via her PC.

There is also a full audit trail of staff / tenants, so if somebody needs to be found, then she can look at the last place they accessed the system.

This has massively reduced engineering and administration time and cost by upto 80%.  To date, the system has not had a single card/reader failure in over 600,000 transactions.
