Industrial Security Barriers and Automatic Rising Bollard Project for Associated British Ports (ABP)

AVA Security & Communications were chosen to design and install the automatic bollards and barriers for the new entrance at ABP Cardiff Docks.  This system was to tie in with the automatic number plate recognition and enhanced CCTV system already in place, with a view to making the Dock entrance more secure and operationally effective.

The system requirement was for two controlled lanes entering into and out of the dock security gate station.  The two lanes were also to have a timed entrance lane, so that after hours one lane was to be securely closed down completely.  The entire system was to be automatically controlled via the ANPR linked to our traffic lights.

AVA Security used four sets of CAME automatic barrier arms which came with a full set of safety systems, such as top flashing lights and a lights down the barrier arm, along with Fadini rising bollards.  Eight sets of safety loops were cut into the tarmac roadways to ensure there would be no accidental damage caused to any vehicles.  The CAME and Fadini equipment was chosen due to its reputation as the best in the industry for both reliability and safety features.

The project was hampered in part by the depth of the water table this close to the sea and also the Health & Safety aspect by working in close proximity to the busy throughfare which needed to remain operationally open during the term of our works.

Richard Beynon, Technical Director at AVA Security & Communications, said: “Despite all the issues that were thrown at us, from the horrific weather storms, large amounts of civil works and the need to work within stringent Health & Safety conditions, the installation was completed within the allowed timescale and to a competitive budget.  Best of all for me however was that it all worked seamlessly -first time”

Integrated Access Control, IP CCTV and Security Alarm system for the new London Head Office for a PLC.

AVA Security & Communications are delighted to have been chosen to design and install the security measures required for the First Group PLC new HQ in central London. It was important from the beginning that the offices were to have the highest levels of security to protect their intellectual property and assets.

The system requirement was for a fully integrated IP CCTV system to cover in perfect detail the movement of staff and visitors around the building.  An IP controlled access control system was also installed across seven doors to control the movement of personnel and also provide audit information of who had gone where and when, in the event of a serious attack.  An out of hours Intruder alarm was also fitted which covered every doorway and office within the building.  This was designed to ensure the highest level of Insurance rating and operated with an immediate policed response over dual path monitoring.

AVA Security used the PELCO Sarix range of mega-pixel cameras linked to the PELCO Network Video Recorder and Video Management Software.  These have produced crystal clear image quality recorded locally for months.  AVA had the capability to provide the IT switches and network connections for onward remote viewing by the Directos at First Plc.

The Access Control element provided a full Read in and Read Out secure system, with AVA providing and printing the ID badges for all staff which doubled up as their door pass cards.  The system is fully networked and linked to the CCTV for recorded images of every door “transaction”.  Each door is set up to enable thousands of activations in the event that the Network was to fail.

Working with a main contractor can always have some logistical issues however we were once again able to commission the system on time and within budget.

Vandal Resistant Intercom and Access Control Solution for South Wales Housing Association

AVA Security have designed and installed the secure intercom and access control system for ten residential blocks totalling almost 100 flats for Bron Afon Community Housing in Cwmbran, South Wales.

The system requirement was to work for the Client with the primary Building contractor, the managers of the Housing Association and, possibly most critical of all- the residents.  Tenant’s were in situ within the housing blocks so full consideration had to be given to considerate working methods, tight health & Safety procedures and a large amount of tenant interaction.

AVA Security fitted the Entrotec range of secure Intercom systems.  Entrotec have a

reputation for delivering industry leading vandal resistant door entry systems and were solely specified for the door entry equipment.   The products are adaptable for a range of applications across the social, mixed tenure and private housing landscape and are  members of Secured by Design, a flagship UK Police initiative to help “design out” crime through the use of high-quality, innovative products and processes

The results include an improved quality of life for tenants by preventing easy access to blocks for non-residents. The incidence of criminal activity such as vandalism and drug dealing is then reduced, helping to make the area a safer place to live.
